Accute compared with Practice CS

This page is half a comparison, on purpose. It states the job a firm hires accounting practice management to do, and what Accute does against that job. It quotes no Practice CS pricing and describes no Practice CS features, because we have not run their software through a firm season and would be guessing in public if we did.

The job, not the feature list

Accounting practice management

Keep an established firm running on practice management, time and billing with the rigour a partner-led practice expects, and the reporting to back it.

That is the job. A firm shortlisting Practice CS is shopping for it, and so is a firm shortlisting Accute. Everything below is what Accute does about it, and how you can check each answer rather than take it.

Questions this page does answer

Three, answered in full, in the words we would use to a partner on a call.

What is a good alternative to Practice CS?

Accute is the alternative we can speak for. Accute is browser-native and multi-tenant from the ground up. A reviewer opens an engagement without anything being installed on the workstation, and nothing about the audit trail depends on where they opened it from. Role-based access control covers staff, clients and platform administrators as separate scopes on the same deployment, and the reporting reads live from that record rather than from an extract.

Is a suite worth it over a single accounting practice management tool?

It depends on whether the firm expects to add services. Accute is one product inside the FinACEverse suite, and the suite shares one identity, one client portal and one audit trail. A firm that later adds tax filing, audit automation or a bookkeeping close is not onboarding a second vendor, reconciling a second client list, or asking its clients to learn a second login.

Does Accute claim Practice CS cannot do these things?

No. We have not run Practice CS through a firm season, so we publish no pricing for it and make no claims about its features. This page states the job firms hire accounting practice management to do and what Accute does against that job, which is the only half we can be held to. For the other half, read what Practice CS publishes itself.

What that answer rests on

Every line here describes a mechanism that exists in the product today, stated precisely enough to be wrong. Hold us to each one in a trial.

Browser-native
Role-based access control
Live dashboards
Custom reports
Tamper-evident logs
Browser-native

The product is one browser application served over HTTPS. There is nothing to install per workstation, and a reviewer who opens the work from a laptop leaves the same record as one who opens it at a desk.

Role-based access control

Permissions are declared in shared code with their categories, their dependencies and their metadata, so a role is a reviewable list rather than a set of boxes somebody remembers ticking.

Live dashboards

Dashboard widgets are records with presets and per-user policies, so what a partner sees and what a preparer sees is configured rather than compiled in.

Custom reports

Report templates take filters and execution parameters, run against live data, and can be scheduled and delivered on their own cadence.

Tamper-evident logs

Cryptographic operations are written into a sequence-numbered hash chain, so an entry cannot be altered or removed without breaking every entry that follows it.

Ask both of us these, not just us

Questions decide this category. Put every one of them to Practice CS, to Accute, and to anything else on your shortlist, and buy whichever answers them on a screen rather than in a sales deck.

  • When a client stops answering, does the system chase them, or does chasing become another task on somebody's list?
  • Can you see, on one record, what was agreed, what was done against it, and what was billed for it?
  • When a signature is challenged a year later, what does the system produce: a flag that says signed, or the signature and the hash it was made over?
  • What does adding your next service line cost in admin: a switch, or a second vendor, a second client list and a second login for your clients?

What this page will not tell you

The rules every page in this family is written under, printed here because you may never see the index.

No competitor pricing here

Plans change, currencies differ and term discounts move the number. A price we captured once and never re-checked would be presented as current while being wrong, so we publish none. Every vendor below publishes its own pricing, and that page is the only one worth reading.

No feature claims about their product

We have not run their software through a firm season, so we are not in a position to say what it does or does not do. Anyone who tells you otherwise about a product they have not used is guessing in public.

Only the half we can be held to

What each entry states is the job a firm hires the category to do, and what Accute does against that job. That half is ours, it is testable in a trial, and you should hold us to it.

So: no Practice CS pricing on this page, and nothing about what Practice CS does or does not do. Practice CS publishes both, and that is the page worth reading for their half.

Also weighed against Accute in accounting practice management

Same contract, same shape, a different product on the other side of it.

The only comparison that settles it

Run one real engagement through Accute, on your own client list, and hold every answer on this page against what you see. We will set that up with you rather than hand you a trial and hope.
